Brendon Small Metal Workshop

July 28 - Aug 1

Ages 11 - 18, Some Experience Required
Cost: $600 / $550 for enrolled PGRA students

Brendon Small, creator of Metalocalypse and Home Movies, as well as the voice and guitar of legendary metal band and cultural phenomenon DETHKLOK, comes to our town to teach our children about the finer points of that true american art form: HEAVY METAL. This camp is for students aged 12-18, and all enrollees must have some musical experience. Students will be placed into their own bands and then educated in what goes in to making true metal music: from naming one's band, to writing songs, arranging the material, performance of said material, the importance of shredding for shredding's sake, and talking to girls after the show. The camp concludes with two performances: The first is for family and friends at the close of the last day of camp (Aug 1st), the second is an opening slot for the Rock Academy show band at a real rock venue (TBD) on Saturday night August 2nd.

Brendon is co-producer, co-writer, composer, and voice actor for the Adult Swim series Metalocalypse. The series focuses on a fictional death metal band named Dethklok, and each episode features a song "performed" by the band.

Aaron Freeman: Songwriting Demystified

Aug 4 - 8

Ages 11 - 18, Beginners Welcome
Cost: $450 / $400 for enrolled PGRA students

Aaron Freeman, creative genius and prolific songwriter, will show you some classic and totally made up techniques so that you can write down what is in your heart and set it to music! Too often fear and perfectionism stop us before we even get started, but that need not be the case any longer. We are all creative spirits, and sometimes it just takes a grab bag full of lyrical ideas, some recycled chord progressions, and the support and guidance of a 90s icon to get us over that hump and on our way to publishing royalties in perpetuity. This workshop is for students aged 11-18 and no musical training is required. Students will write their own songs, and collaborate and perform with others on their songs. Every student will receive a CD of the material generated during the week.

Aaron Freeman is also known as Gene Ween from the world famous, experimental rock band Ween.
